King Uther Pendragon and Tintagel Castle. King Uther was born in Bourges, France. When his father King Constans of Briton was murdered, Uther fled to Brittany where his cousin King Budic I of Brittany lived. Uther was raised here. When Uther was older he and his brother Pendragon went back to Briton to fight for the thrown of King. Pendragon was ill at the time. While Uther was marching to battle, he saw a dragon shaped comet. Merlin said it was a sign that Pendragon has died and a great future for Uther and so Uther won the battle and became king and took the name Pendragon in memory of his brother. Uther commanded Merlin to go to Ireland and and get stones for a shrine for his brother's burial place. Merlin got the stones from Mt. Killaraus were it is told that giants from Africa brought these stones to this mountain.This burial place is now called "Stonehenge." Later, Uther will be buried here next to his brother. Merllin asked Uther to prepare a great RoundTable for all the great nobles. At this feast he met Lady Igraine with her husband the Duke of Cornwall Gorlois. When he saw Igraine, he fell deeply in love with her and asked her to be his wife. She was flattered, but happily married. Once Gorlois heard of this, he challenged Uther to a war. Before the battle began, Uther told his soldiers and Merlin that he would die of a broken heart if he didn't have Igraine. Merlin came up with a plan for him to be with her. As Gorlois was fighting Uther's soldiers, Merlin disguised Uther as Gorlois and he went to Tintagel Castle where Igraine was and slept with her. Arthur was then conceived. In the morning, a messenger told Igraine that Gorlois was killed in battle. Many tales have told that Merlin was responsible. Gorlois died three hours before he was with her. Uther asked Igraine to be his wife after he had heard of Gorlois's death and she said yes. Right then they got married. She soon found out that she was pregnant and sad that Gorlois wasn't around to see the baby born. Uther told Igraine about that night and she was happy that the son was his and he would become king just like his father. Merlin asked for a favor for doing this deed and it was to take the child that shall be born. Merlin's true reason was to protect him from war and make sure that Arthur becomes king. Arthur was born and Uther commanded his servants to bring the baby out to the man waiting outside. It was Merlin in disguise. Merlin gave him to Sir Ector. Two years later, Uther was ill and just before he died, he said to his servants and Merlin that Arthur would succeed him to become king. Uther died and was buried next to his brother at Stonehenge.

Arthur was then conceived. Today Tintagel Castle is a touriest site. Uther gave this land to Gorlois as part of his territory.
